Visually impaired people in Bangalore displayed their skills in reading Braille text during the special Friendship Day Car Rally for blind people, organised on August 7.

A predetermined route map, printed in Braille, was given to the visually impaired participants who acted as the navigators, guiding the sighted driver to the destination.

The rally covered a 70-km route from Bangalore Central to Nandi Hills. According to President of National Association for the Blind, Karnataka, Dr. Saroja Ramachandran, the Hill has 44 curves which were duly noted on the map.

The rally presented an opportunity for several sighted car-owners to make friends with visually impaired people, she added. The entry fee for a car was Rs. 1,000, which will go towards N.A.B.'s projects supporting people with blindness and visual impairment.
