SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR PEOPLE WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENT- FAQ

  1.  Can a visually impaired student apply for a scholarship?

Yes, there are various scholarships available for students with visual impairment, both at the school and college level.
 

  1. Is there any scholarship under central scheme for student with disability pursuing pre-matric /post matric?

Ans-   Under Central Sector scheme, scholarships are available at the pre matric and post matric level. Scholarships under this scheme are available for students studying in classes IX, X, XI, XII, post-matriculation diploma/certificates and Bachelors Degree or Diploma in India. Scholarship under the Scheme is awarded by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Department of Disability Affairs, and Government of India.

  1. Is there any scholarship scheme for student with disability pursuing professional or technical courses from recognized institutes?

Ans- Yes, Trust fund scheme scholarship is provided for financial assistance to the differently-abled students to enable them to pursue professional or technical courses from recognized institutes and get employment/self-employment.

  1. Is there any Scholarship specifically available for girls with visual impairment?

Ans-   Marga Schulze Merit Scholarship Scheme for higher education is available for girls with visual impairment in order to support higher education.        
In India, the scheme is implemented by two organizations,
 

  1. The All India Confederation of the Blind in Delhi ( aicbdelhi@eth.net, aicb@yahoo.com)   for the Northern, Easter, North Eastern, and the Central States.

 

  1. UDIS Forum in Coimbatore(udisforum3@gmail.com) covers the states of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Diu & Daman, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Maharashtra and Pondicherry. Rs 1000(One thousand)per month at graduation level, Rs 1250( One thousand two hundred and fifty) per month at B.Ed level and Rs 1500(One thousand and five hundred) at the post-graduation level.

  1. Is there a scholarship for pursuing higher education?

Ans- Yes NAB (National Association for the Blind) and NFB (National Federation of the blind.) offer scholarships to students with visual impairment pursing - higher education graduation, post-graduation. However, NFB offers merit based scholarship to students pursuing higher education- graduation, post-graduation, B.Ed and B.T.C (Basic Teaching Certificate).
