Wed, 07/18/2012 - 17:12 -- admin

Now the blind in India, especially Bengal, who never got a chance to know Max Carrados, will at least get the joy of reading the celebrated Satyajit Ray series featuring the tall and intelligent south Kolkata Bengali who cracks every difficult case at the end.

Five volumes of Satyajit Ray's ‘Feluda’ detective series along with R K Narayan's ‘The Malgudi Days’ were launched on Braille for the blind here on Saturday.

In a unique effort The Third Eye Charitable Trust unveiled ‘Feluda’ series along with other rich Bengali children stories like ‘Pagla Dasu’, ‘Abol Tabol’, ‘Chander Pahar’ and ‘The Malgudi Days’ through Braille editions of these books.

American Consul General Dean Thompson and actor Abir Chatterjee were present at the launch and they highly praised the initiative.

Dean Thompson said: “Sch initiatives should be encouraged even more and the effort put forth by the organization is commendable.”

Actor Abir Chatterjee, who plays the detective Bomkesh Bakshi on celluloid, said: “It feels good to be a part of such initiative. All these books remind me of my childhood days. I am happy that visually challenged kids will also get the taste of such wonderful literary works.”

“I want to thank the organization for doing such a great job like this” added the actor.

He jokingly mentioned that the Trustee board has promised him that they will also launch ‘Bomkesh Bokshi’ series. Abir also spent some time with visually impaired kids.

The event was followed by two competition, elocution and shruti natak by the kids of the organization.
