DEHRADUN: Citizens group 'Been There Doon That (BTDT)' organised a heritage and nature walk for students of National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) and Bajaj Institute of Learning (BIL). The walk was held at the campus of the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) at Chandrabani to mark International Biodiversity Day on Sunday.
Around 40 people, including students and teachers from both the institutions and BTDT members, participated in the walk. Wildlife scientists and experts led the group on a nature trail and explained the biodiversity of Dehradun to the participants.
The visually-impaired and hearing-impaired students were made to touch different trees and leaves like Sal and Jamun to feel different textures and were made to hear the sound of birds to identify various bird species.
A sign language interpreter interpreted the walk through gestures for some of the students.
