Impairment didn’t hinder his achievement

Visually impaired by birth, he was inclined towards music from his nascent days. He not only practiced it, but also went on to give concerts both in India and abroad. 

Now, he has a Ph D in music for his research on the subject- Recent development in Karnatak classical music, under the guidance of renowned violinist Mysore M Manjunath.

Youngest among the four children of K T Thirumalai and Saroja Thirumalai couple of Bogadi here, Udaya Kiran K T described the moment as most memorable one. He has to his credit concerts at USA and UK, besides in our own Nada Habba Dasara.

Udaya Kiran told Deccan Herald, he has collaborated with western musicians, performing on keyboard in fusion concerts. A vocalist, he is also a B grade artiste in Akashavani and has PG in music. However, he did his graduation in BA with History and sociology as combinations.

Ask him who is his inspiration, he pat says without any hedge- all the greatest musicians in the world are my source of inspiration. For research he found help in screen reader software, besides braille to an extent. His passion for studying further still remains, with Udaya Kiran having plans for further education.

Impressed by his feat, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda not only congratulated him, but also gave a pat on his back.
Sri Lankan graduates too

Of the total number of graduates, 15 are from Sri Lanka, who have secured B Sc degree in Bio-technology. They are also the first batch of students to graduate out of the outreach programme of the University of Mysore.

Jayanathan  Kulasingham, chairman of Spectrum Institute of Science and Technology, in Colombo told Deccan Herald, it is the first institute to be affiliated to the University of Mysore.

The institute entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) six years ago with the varsity here. Accordingly, apart from the local faculty, faculty from Mysore teach at the institute there once in every six months.

Of the total number of students in the batch, 12 participated in the convocation.
