Indian scientists have developed a smartphone app that helps colour blind and visually impaired students detect color changes in a routine lab experiment, thereby ensuring their active participation and independence.
The app, Titration ColorCam, is a step forward in the ongoing effort to develop assisstive mobile technology to aid blind students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), said Subhajit Bandyopadhyay and Balraj B. Rathod of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has decided to introduce a comprehensive package for the functioning of blind schools - government and aided - in the state.
The Cabinet meeting on Wednesday took the decision to bring in a package for fixing norms for such schools.
The package will deal with all aspects related to the functioning of blind schools in the state including setting standards, finalising its norms, ensuring infrastructure facilities, staff pattern and appointments. However, there is no time set for implementing the package.
The National Science Day is being celebrated every year on February 28 all over India to commemorate the invention of the Raman Effect by the Indian physicist Sir Chandrasekhar Venkata Raman on the same day in the year 1928.
For his great success in the field of science, Sir Raman was awarded and honoured with the Nobel Prize in Physics in the year 1930. Besides, the National Science Day offers an opportunity to widely spread a message about the significance of scientific application in the daily life of people.
It’s been 11 years and 1,000 blind students. By the end of each workshop, these students learn how to handle a camera and click photographs just like someone who can see. Partho Bhowmick, teaches them the art of blind photography, right from holding a point-and-shoot camera to touching and feeling the texture, and to use auditory and olfactory cues to understand the frame. This initiative brings them a step closer to the rest of the world, who can witness the beauty of things with their own eyes.
