Hope Restored

22-year-old Pavani Guduri hails from east Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Growing up, she went to a mainstream school and enjoyed a comfortable life.
After completing class 12, Pavani began to face issues with her vision, so she was prescribed powered glasses by the doctor. After completing graduation her vision deteriorated drastically, making it difficult for her to function independently. She was eventually diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a degenerative eye condition.
Unaware of how to proceed further, Pavani reached out to one of her professor's, who informed her about Eyeway. Our Eyeway Helpdesk counsellor in Karnataka reached out to her to understand her challenges. Losing sight at a young age had left her feeling hopeless about her future. She was unaware about the assistive technology that blind people could use to live an independent life. The counsellor informed her about screen readers, talk back features, mobility and other employability training that would help her become independent and achieve her goals.
The counselor further connected her to a visually impaired computer trainer, who provides online training to visually impaired candidates. She was also referred to our partner organization, Enable India in Bangalore, where she will enroll for a foundation course that offers mobility, employability and life skills.
Equipped with right information and guidance, Pavani is currently undergoing a diploma course in special education that will enable her to teach deaf-blind children.
Pavani’s interaction with Eyeway has opened a world of possibilities that are not limited by her sight loss.
