Lending a helping hand

Twenty-year-old Gaurav Tiwari was born in a small village in Nagpur, Maharashtra. He was a premature baby and prolonged incubation as well as exposure to light resulted in eye sight damage.

He is the only blind child among five siblings to a low-income family, where the mother is a homemaker and father works as a local priest. Neighbours and family pitied Gaurav and deemed him dependent for life. But his father refused to be demotivated by society’s slurs, and he moved to a district where Gaurav could attend special school.
After completing Class VIII, Gaurav moved to Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh to finish his higher education. He was extremely inclined towards learning Sanskrit language as that was the mode of communication with his father. He wanted to enroll for a graduation in the subject at the Banaras Hindu University. But he faced a hurdle in the form of preparation of the Central University Entrance Test (CUET).

All study material was in written textual format which was inaccessible to a blind student like him. He reached out to Eyeway for assistance. Our Helpdesk counselor helped arrange for most of the study material in a format that Gaurav could comprehend. The counselor also helped him download his exam admit card online, as Gaurav was not too well versed with computers or technology.

Once these barriers were removed, Gaurav studied hard and cleared his CUET. As he pursues his graduation, Eyeway is also guiding him to avail government schemes and concessions that can assist him with education as well as employment prospects. The counselor is also helping Gaurav find a suitable computer training program so he can read, write and navigate independently in this digital world.
