A two-year free skill development programme has started at Mata Jijabai Govt PG Girls College (old GDC) for career advancement of the visually impaired students who have been studying undergraduate courses.
Of the 13 states selected for the skill development and English classes for career enhancement of visually impaired students, in Madhya Pradesh, Old GDC College is the only higher educational institution (HEI) to be a part of this training programme.
Old GDC College has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Chennai based non-governmental organisation (NGO) working for the visually impaired and a renowned IT consultant company for this free of cost training programme which will encompass a duration of two years. “On Monday, a total of 26 visually impaired students were given laptops for the training programme. The students will be taught various modules of computers,” Old GDC College principal Dr Shree Dwivedi told TOI.
After the regular UG classes, the students will be attending the computer class and English speaking classes for two hours each day.
