SC to examine PIL seeking implementation of Braille Integration System in currency notes

New Delhi, August 27 (IANS): The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to examine a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions for the implementation of the Braille Integration System across all domains of public and private sectors to assist visually impaired people.

All schools in Nagaland, recognised and registered by the state government will henceforth provide inclusive education to children with disabilities.

MUMBAI: The state government on Thursday told the Bombay high court that all educational institutions in Maharashtra  have been directed to conduct an audit of their buildings to check whether they have barrierfree access for differentlyabled individuals; if not, changes must be made within ayear to enable such access.

After Delhi HC order, RBI to ease identification of banknotes for visually challenged

Pursuant to recommendations made before the Delhi High Court in April this year, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has intimated that it will be exploring ways to make identification of Indian currency easier for visually challenged persons.

To this end, the RBI has undertaken to develop suitable identification devices/mechanisms following consultation with stakeholders. Furthermore, the body is also expected to issue necessary guidelines within six months.

LAHORE: 

Justice Shujaat Ali Khan of the Lahore High Court issued a notice to the Punjab government on a petition seeking an order to grant jobs to visually-impaired people who are protesting on the road for their rights.

Judicial Activism Panel, the petitioning NGO, filed the plea through its counsel. It was stated that every state deals with special people by taking the utmost care, but the situation is different in Pakistan. He added the visually-impaired are running from pillar to post for their basic rights.

Disabilities Act to cover 21 disabilities: Minister

Chandigarh: Punjab minister of social security, women and child development, Razia Sultana on Tuesday said 21 disabilities would be covered under the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
Sultana chaired the first meeting of the state advisory board on disabilities constituted under the Act, on Tuesday.

Put proposals of visually impaired before RBI: HC

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the Centre to place before the RBI suggestions made by the visually-impaired on ways to distinguish between various denominations of currency notes with help of features like cut edges or different shapes and sizes.
