The Amway India in association with the Turnstone Global launched a Braille library for the visually-impaired students at the Bhima Bhoi School for the Blind here on Tuesday.

Fire Services DGP Dr Binoy Behera gracing as chief guest inaugurated the library in presence Secondary Education Deputy Director Snehamayee Senapati, School Principal Sumit Dasgupta and Amway Odisha Cluster Operations Manager Rana Pratap Pradhan.

The library would offer Braille versions of a variety of books and journals and CDs ranging from academic books, fiction, self-help, general knowledge for the benefit of more than 85 visually-impaired students, who otherwise have limited access to books. The Library is also equipped with computers to enable students to access more than 30 CDs.

“This is a commendable initiative shown by the Amway India in a very noble and spirited cause. I believe the boys of the school will benefit immensely. Such a combined endeavour will be a step in the right direction towards ensuring a more level playing field between the physically-challenged and those less disadvantaged,” said the DGP

Amway India North and East Vice-President GS Cheema said, “We have been working tirelessly towards the welfare of the visually impaired with a firm belief that education and knowledge is the key to the future that create opportunities transcending physical limitations. A Braille library is a key component of that strategy.  We are in the process of launching 31 Braille libraries across the country,”
