KOCHI: She had lost her eyesight ten years ago. However, she did not allow impairment to hamper her from having a career and a normal life. A doctor, Reshmi Pramod’s life took a disastrous plunge when she was detected with macular degeneration, a disease causing vision loss and blindness soon after she started her practice.

However, fighting all odds, she started Jeevaniyam Ayurveda Hospital and Research Centre in Kochi which is helping autism-affected kids to mend a new life.

Realizing that learning disabilities and mental disorders are a far greater challenge than physical disability, Reshmi  took the initiative to help children affected with learning disabilities.

Jeevaniyam has been providing unique ayurveda treatments along with yoga training and other therapies to make the child grow mentally healthy and stronger. Speech therapy, and occupational therapy are being provided in the hospital under the guidance of expert doctors.

Even when people believe that children with such disabilities can succeed, Dr Reshmi’s states the disorders can be treated and the child can be given a new future.

“ Recent studies in India estimate that around 2.73 percent children are affected with various kinds of mental or physical disabilities. One in every 60 people has autism. The data is quite alarming. What these children need is not sympathy but proper care and good treatment. That is what Jeevaniyam does. Studies prove that if given good treatment, care and attention the children with disabilities can lead a normal life like any other children,” Reshmi states. Jeevaniyam also provides support and solutions for children with learning disabilities.
