The 10-year-old visually challenged rape victim, who was allegedly raped repeatedly by her teacher at Fatehgarh School for Visually Challenged and Hearing Impaired, has stopped going to school as she is suffering from mental and physical trauma.

The girl has not been going to school since FIR was lodged at Talaiya police station and subsequently medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) was conducted on the partially blind orphan at Sultania Hospital. The girl is an inmate of an orphanage in the city. Besides, another girl from the same orphanage, who was a student of the school, has also stopped going to school.

Only a boy from the orphanage continues to go to the school.

An employee of the school, on condition of anonymity, said two girls of the same orphanage used to come to school before the FIR was lodged against Shivkhand Kishore Mishra on November 14
The staff member said the 10-year-old rape victim has not been coming to school since then. The other girl, who used to accompany her to school, has not been seen in the school for several days either.

Despite the horrific incident which occurred on the school premises, there is no security system at the school and the overall condition of the school meant for education of special children has not changed except the fact that there is now one woman caretaker too at the school.

Situated at a godforsaken place, the school has no security guard. There are around 30 disabled students and five male teachers.

Almost all the teachers are above the age of 50 years and are visually challenged. Only a male peon and a female caretaker are responsible for the security of the entire school. The female caretaker has only been appointed on November 24 after the incident.

Ironically, Shivkhand, who is behind bars now, was the only teacher, who had normal vision. The condition of the school building is also pathetic with leaking roofs, damaged toilets and broken furniture.
When HT contacted director of the orphanage Satendra Singh, he said he was aware that the rape victim was not going to school as she is suffering from trauma but didn’t know that the other girl has also stopped going to school.

He further said he would be able to talk about the present condition of the girl after discussing it with higher authorities.
