Admission announcement-Breast cancer detection training for visually impaired girls

NAB India, Centre for Blind Women & Disability Studies-Delhi invites applications from eligible blind girls for its second batch of training in `Breast Cancer Detection under Discovering Hands Project.

Discovering Hands is a project from Germany and an initiative of Dr. Frank Hoffman, a senior Gynaecologist in Germany. They have been training blind women for last 10 years to detect the early signs of breast cancer. The visually impaired women with their highly sensitized touch and tactile sense are trained to detect the smallest lumps of breast cancer thereby preventing
it at early stages by doing physical examination of breasts. Therefore they are designated as Medical Tactile Examiners (MTEs). The venture has been successfully running in Germany, Columbia and Austria.

Eligibility Criteria to apply for the training:

-Only women with blindness can apply
-Age : between 18 years to 55 years
-Minimum education: 10th class
-Basic knowledge of science till 8th class -Seriousness towards the trainingis highly desirable as after the training, the trained candidates will work with patients and doctors

Final Selection: Final selection shall be made after 5 days of assessment.

Training Duration: 12 months

Training Includes: Computer skills, communication skills, breast specific psychology and administrative tasks.

During 12 months training, the trainees learn how to use a standardized diagnostic method for examining the female breast. They get 3 months preliminary training, 6 months main Training and 3 months Internship.

Employment Scope: MTEs are either directly employed by resident doctors or hospitals or they work for different clinics and hospitals on a freelance basis. (First batch going for internships at Medanta)

Free Hostel Facility & Stipend: Hostel facility shall be available for selected candidates for the training. A minimum amount of stipend shall be also provided to the trainees.
