The District Disability Rehabilitation Centre of Mysore has organised a comprehensive rehabilitation camp for differently-abled on May 1 and 2 between 9 am to 6 pm at the Government School for the Blind, School for Deaf and Dumb of Tilak Nagar, said deputy commissioner P S Vastrad.

Addressing a press meet here on Monday, he said, the camp is organised in association with Pandit Deen Dayaal Upadhyaya Institute for physically Handicapped of New Delhi from which nine officers including rehabilitation experts would attend the camp to asses disability categories and get deformity details.

“Indian Red Cross Society and District Administration has joined hands for the programme. The camp would be attended by specialist doctors of from Mysore and other states.”

Dr G Pandey of Pandit Deen Dayaal Upadhyaya Institute for physically Handicapped explaining the objectives of camp said, main objective of the camp is to cover various disability categories like orthopedically handicapped, visually impaired, speech and hearing impaired and mentally retarded.

“The camp is arranged to get preliminary assessment details of individual beneficiaries in order to provide free aids and appliances like wheel chairs, tricycles, artificial legs, artificial hands, plastic calipers, surgical shoes, mobility aids, crutches, hearing aids, white canes, braille kit, low vision equipments, special education kits for mentally-retarded children. Camp concentrates on customised needs of patients and benefits reach the right hands,” he added.

Camp schedule

“To facilitate the beneficiaries, taluk-wise camp has been scheduled. On May 1, differently-abled from Mysore urban and rural areas, Najangud taluk and Periyapatna taluk may attend and on may 2, Hunsur taluk, K R Nagar taluk, H D Kote taluk and T Narasipur taluk persons could attend,” he added.

‘Differently’ deprived 

According to Dr Pandey, the rehabilitation camp facility is there since 20 years, but not reached Karnataka, probably because the government has not reached the Institute.

“Recently on receiving request from government, the team has arrived in Karnataka. In Bangalore the camp was held on April 28 and more than 150 aids and appliances worth Rs six lakh has been distributed. In Mysore it is for the first time.”

Clarifying the matter, Vastrad said, “under state government schemes, benefits have reached the needy.”

‘Rally recruitment fair, transparent’

Army open recruitment rally is being organised in Mysore from May 2 to 8 under the aegis of headquarters recruiting zone of Bangalore, said Colonel G S Virk.

Addressing a press meet here on Monday, he said: “The rally would benefit candidates of 12 districts. Candidates from Bangalore urban, Bangalore rural, Kolar, Tumkur, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagara, Chikkaballapur, Gadag, Haveri and Bagalkot could participate.”

Stating that the recruitment procedure was transparent and candidates need not approach any agents for any procedures he said, the rally would conduct tests for enrolment into Indian Army in categories of soldier general duty, soldier technical, soldier clerk, store keeper technical, soldier nursing assistant, soldier general duty and soldier tradesman. After physical fitness test, physical measurement test would be conducted.

Three army medical corps officers would then conduct medical examination. 

“At the end of the day, candidates declared fit are given admit card for Common Entrance Examination (CEE). Candidates declared unfit during medical examination are permitted to take review of specialists in Army Hospitals,” he said.

More than 12,000 candidates are expected to attend the rally. Independent team of officers are detailed from various Army units of Karnataka and Kerala to make the process fair and fool proof. “For clarifications, candidates should contact 080-25006569 or 080-25599290,” he added.
