BENGALURU: Thirty-five new mothers and their babies participated in the annual Pinkathon run in Bengaluru on Sunday morning.

Among the 10,000 women who ran various distances in the run to raise breast cancer awareness were students, housewives, corporate executives, cancer survivors, and women from underprivileged and visually impaired sections.

The run is organised every year and is open to women of all age groups. The participants can choose either to run or walk in the 3 km, 5 km, 10 and 21 km categories. Around 55 visually impaired girls ran the 3 km distance and a group of cancer survivors participated in the 3 km and 5 km class.

The event was flagged off by Pinkathon founder Milind Soman, the former model and actor. "We are delighted to have such diverse crowd," Soman said.

The organisers this year invited new mothers to take part in Pinkathon along with their babies.

The event was sponsored by the State Bank of India. Event partner Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Centre provided medical tags to the participants.

Participants above 45 years were offered a free mammogram and a free medical examination as well as a bone density check-up.
