Demand for rights for differently-abled

Wed, 07/18/2012 - 16:07 -- admin

Stakeholders have opined that discriminatory attitude towards differently-abled people should be made positive as they also can perform equal to other persons if they were provided with opportunities and rights.
At a programme organised by Youth Support, speakers said that differently-abled persons' access to education and health should be increased.

On the occasion, UCPN (Maoist) politburo member Pampha Bhusal said that disability was a natural problem not an individual fault. Bhusal was of the opinion that wrong attitude of society and family to the disabled persons should be brought to an end.

She said the physically challenged also can work equal to other persons if they were given opportunities, facilities and rights and added state mechanism should pay attention to make the disabled persons more competitive in every sector.

Senior officer at Lalitpur Sub-Metropolis Ashok Shrestha said efforts were underway to make the activities of the sub-metropolis disabled-friendly.

Similarly, rights activist Bikash Adhikari complained that effective implementation of the policy was lacking in the country though they were drafted.

On the occasion, different differently-abled persons were provided with cash incentives.
