They may not be toppers but they are surely achievers. Notwithstanding physical disabilities, several students fought against the odds and made their parents and schools proud.

Suffering from vision impairment, Rachit Malik of Amity International School in Noida secured 93.8% in the Class 12 science stream while Ambika Khattar from Delhi Public School (RK Puram) scored 83.8%.

Affected by retinal bilateral blindness, Viplove Yadav, a student of DAV Public School in Sector 14, Gurgaon, scored 89.4%.
Son of a doctor couple, Yadav’s mother has been his pillar of strength. “I used to read out textbooks to him and when I was not around, he used magnifying glasses to read books which caused strain on his eyes,” said Dr Manju Yadav, Viplove’s mother.
Viplove added, “I feel bad when I cannot play sports but I think I can become a great scholar.”
Suneet Anand, a student of Delhi Public School, Sector 45, Gurgaon, was suffering from retinal detachment at the time of board exams but still managed to score 88.8%.
For students belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS) category, their good scorecard is a reflection of all the hardships they have endured. “We have put in a lot of effort and it is wonderful to see the students do so well. It is very important to encourage them,” said Ameeta Wattal, principal of Springdales School, Pusa Road. Of the 12 students under the EWS category in the school, Aman Sharan secured 92.4% in the science stream. There are 10 other students who have secured above 65%.
“I want to do engineering and am waiting for the AIEEE results. I also plan to apply for Economics (Hons) in Delhi University,” said Sharan.
“A lot of effort goes into nurturing EWS candidates and it is a matter of great pride that they have done as well as general category students. Students who are differently-abled have also done us proud. No physical impairment is an obstacle for those who really want to do well,” said an official from Amity International School, Noida.
