Five disabled to be awarded by Guv

Five disabled persons of the city selected by the state government for their outstanding contribution in various fields would be awarded a special prize by the state governor on World Handicapped Day on December 2.

Informing this, district handicapped officer, KK Mishra said that Arun Kumar presently working in the office of general manager, Telecom is heading the list. This deaf and dumb person has won many awards in state level handicapped volleyball championship.

Working as a teacher in Government Inter College, Allahabad, Dr Ram Prasad attained D Phil degree despite being a blind. A member of national trust for blind, Government of India he is also associated with various social organisations.

Similarly, a blind since childhood, Ramakant Singh completed his MA in political science is working as a reception assistant in the state tourism department at Allahabad. He is also working relentlessly for the cause of blind by associating with different voluntary organisations engaged in the upliftment of blind persons.

Another person in the award category is Srinarayan Yadav who lost both his hands in an accident several years back.Despite his handicap Yadav has completed MA, B Ed, LLB and Vishisth B Ed.He is also working for the cause of handicapped and disabled for the past several years.

Last but not the least is well known theatre activist, Praveen Shekhar who lost his hand in an accident. Despite this he completed his graduation and PG diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication. In recognition for his services in the field of theatre, Shekhar was awarded many prizes.
