Global White Cane Day was observed under the aegis of Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF), in association with the National Association for the Blind (NAB), with a rally and cultural programmes.
Over 70 visually impaired people, including students, participated in the rally that began from NAB office and took a course to Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan, PMG and back. Amway Opportunity Foundation gifted white canes to the students of NAB.  The key objective of the event was to honour the achievements of individuals who are visually impaired and to promote the image of the white cane as not only a symbol of blindness, but a tool for independence.

The rally was flagged off  by Chandrasekhara Babu, former Director of Employment. The event was presided over by S Sukumaran, vice-president, NAB, Kerala. Josey Joseph, honorary general secretary and general executive officer, NAB, Kerala, DIG E Jayaraj, Rotary Club of Thiruvananthapuram suburban president Ambady Chandrasekharan Nair, Thiruvananthapuram Government Blind School headmaster C Thulaseedharan and Varkala Blind School headmaster Justin were also present. The rally was followed by a cultural programme and prize distribution ceremony for the winners.
