Thu, 06/11/2015 - 10:58 -- geeta.nair

KOCHI:The Kerala High Court on Monday came to the rescue of a 47-year-old visually impaired lady advocate, by directing the Kannur University to treat her as eligible for the post of lecturer in Law in the university.

The court issued the order while allowing a petition filed by E S Prasanna Kumari, who argued her case before the court in person, challenging the decision by the Kannur University not to consider her for the post.

Invalidating an earlier appointment made by the University for the post, Justice A K Jayasankaran Nambiar directed the University authorities to consider the suitability of Prasanna for the post of Law lecturer.

Prasanna Kumari, a native of Chottatnikkara, was an applicant to the post of lecturer that was called under the ‘vacancy and reservation quota’ for physically handicapped, as per a  notification issued by the Kannur University on November, 29, 2008.

The age limit for the post was 40 as of January 2008. Though she attended interview on October 5, 2010, the interview board objected to her candidature saying that she had exceeded the prescribed age limit.
