India’s blind cricket body to launch IPL-type T20 league

Fri, 05/11/2018 - 12:40 -- geeta.nair

2018 is turning out to be special for India’s blind cricket team. In January, they defeated Pakistan to clinch their second consecutive World Cup crown. And if all goes to plan, blind cricketers of India will have a T20 league of their own by the year end.

In a step that may provide blind cricket much-deserved attention from TV and fans, Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) plans to conduct a T20 League for blind cricketers on the lines of Indian Premier League (IPL), between mid-November and mid-December.

Confirming the development to the Indian Express, CABI general secretary John David also said Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who co-owns IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, is likely to buy a team in the blind cricket league as well.

“We have had a talk with SRK and he showed his interest in the league,” David has been quoted as saying.

The league is likely to have 10 teams and will be staged in the same format as IPL (home-and-away games).

The association has approached Star network for coverage of the event.
