Krishna Kumari Varma Memorial Award 2013 For Visually Impaired Students

AICB is pleased to inform you that with the financial support from Dr. Ved Prakash Varma, Retired Professor and former Head, Department of Philosophy, University of Delhi, we have established “Krishna Kumari Varma Memorial Award” for outstanding blind students. The purpose of the Award is to encourage and inspire blind students to achieve the highest position in their post-graduate examinations.

The Award is given to those blind students who secure the first or second position in their post-graduate examinations (except music and fine arts) in order of merit in any university recognized by the U.G.C. For the year 2007, the Award was given to Mr. Harikrishanan G, who secured first position in Master’s Degree (History) in the University of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, Kerala, while for the year 2008 this Award was given away to Mr. Satheesan B, who secured first position in the subject of Sociology in Master’s Degree from Mangalore University. For the year 2009, Mr. Umesha S.E. received this Award for securing second position in M.A. (Economics) from University of Mysore, & for the year 2010, Miss Zarana Dilipkumar Maheshwary, received this Award for securing First Position in the Master of Arts (E.L.T.) from Sardar Patel University, Gujarat. In the year 2011, Mr. Ashu Mishra was the recipient of this Award, who secured First position in Master’s Degree (Hindi) from University of Delhi. During 2012 applications from eligible candidate were not received. 

The blind students will be required to compete with all students appearing in their subject in any particular year. The term “Blind” would mean as defined by the Government of India and the applicant shall be required to send certificate of blindness issued by an Ophthalmologist along with his/her application latest by 31st October, 2013 in the prescribed Application Form. The Award will consist of Rs.10,000.00 (Rupees Ten Thousand Only), a certificate, a citation and a memento. Selected candidate along with his/her escort shall be provided to and fro AC 2 tier railway fare on concessional rates and hotel accommodation at the time of Award ceremony on 4th January, 2014. 

While selecting a student for the Award, his/her whole academic career would be taken into consideration. Normally, the Award will be given to a student who obtains the first position in order of merit in the University. If, however, such a student is not available in a particular year, the Award can be given to a student who secures the second position.

The Award will not be given to any one if no student is found qualified in any year or years. If in a subsequent year or years two students are found qualified for the Award, it can be given to both of them.

The applicant will be required to send along with the application form photocopies of the certificates of all the examinations, and these copies should be attested by the Head of Department concerned or a Gazetted Officer. A certificate testifying the position of the candidate in order of merit in the University should also be sent along with the application form, and this certificate should be signed by (A) the Head of Department and (B) the Registrar or Vice- Chancellor of the University. The decision of the Selection Committee regarding the Award shall be final and irrevocable.
