Metro experience for visual and hearing impaired

BENGALURU: Visually and hearing impaired adults on Friday experienced their first ride on a portion of Namma Metro’s underground Corridor with the help of an NGO and IT concern, who facilitated it.  Sense International India had organised the ride for 34 visually and hearing impaired adults along with their interpreters from Swami Vivekananda Metro station to Cubbon Park Metro station. Thirteen volunteers from Cognizant also took part.

National IT contest for youth with disabilities

CHENNAI: This year the Global IT Challenge (GITC) for Youth with Disabilities will be held during 21st – 25th November, 2016 in Yagzhou, Jiangsu, China. The event is meant for four categories of disabilities – visual impairment, hearing impairment, physical impairment (locomotor) and intellectual/development disorder for people within 13-19 years. One youth with disability from each of the above categories will be nominated to participate in the GITC 2016 in China.

Microsoft India hosted Confluence, a annual diversity and inclusion conference in Hyderabad on Friday. It had a host of events and sessions to help its employees understand shortcomings of people, be sensitive towards them and be more perceptive towards all.

Disability certificate: New criteria, software glitches mar process

At 19 years of age, Datta Baban Gawli, a vendor earning his living in local trains at Daund, suffered an accident and it led to the amputation of both his legs. Not one to give up, he got a tricycle wheelchair and started selling goods again. He availed a disability certificate from Sassoon general hospital to ensure that he could use the tricycle wheelchair in the train.
