National blind football team comprising four players from Kerala to leave for Japan games

KOCHI: The national blind football team, which also comprises four players from Kerala, will soon leave for Japan to participate in the IBSA Blind Football World Grand Prix scheduled at Tokyo from March 21 to March 25.The Indian squad, which ranks 29 in the IBSA Blind Football ranking, will participate in the ‘development games’ which will be held in conjunction with the grand prix. The team will play against the Belgium and Japan B teams.

Winter Paralympics 2018's first gold medal claimed by visually impaired downhill skiier Henrieta Farkasova

Slovakia's Henrieta Farkasova won the first gold medal of the Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics on Saturday in women's vision impaired downhill skiing.

Farkasova and her guide Natalia Subrtova finished in 1min, 29.72 sec, beating second-placed Millie Knight of Britain and her guide Brett Wild by 0.86 sec.
 

It was the Slovakian's sixth Paralympic gold in vision impaired skiing. Belgium's Eleonor took the bronze medal, finishing the course in 1min, 31.60 sec.

George Abraham

George Abraham conceived and organised the first ever World Cup for blind in 1998 at New Delhi.  


He suffered from meningitis and became visually impaired when he was only 10 months old. Yet, fighting insurmountable odds, George Abraham is today not only living a successful and wholesome life himself, but is also working tirelessly to bring hope to the lives of other visually-impaired people.

CHENNAI: The National Association for the Blind (NAB), O2 Health Studio and Madras Motor Sports Club, together hosted the 29th edition of the car rally for the blind. The rally, which was flagged off from Savera Hotel, saw around 45 different cars hit the road. Each car had around three to four participants, including a visually impaired partner navigating, using a braille system. “I noticed that many companies would take it up and then discontinue. Then we decided to pursue it, and for the last eight years, O2 has been partnering with NAB,” said Nina Reddy, president, NAB.

Blind Cricket team champs meet Prez

New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) Winner of the Blind Cricket World Cup team India on Wednesday met President Ramnath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan. 

Kovind, congratulated the winners of the World Cup and also clicked pictures with them.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the Blind Cricket team had met Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

One is a singer, one works at a farm, another sells milk—meet India’s Blind World Cup winning team members who are struggling to make ends meet in the cricket mad nation where many will become overnight millionaires in the IPL auction this weekend.
Cricket is religion in India and cricketers enjoy larger than life status but on the contrary, the champion blind cricketers continue to suffer due to unemployment and lack of recognition.
