First ever blind football game to be held in Goa from Sep 2

Panaji, Aug 31 (UNI) Indian Blind Football Federation and Society for Rehabilitation of the Visually Challenged (SRVC) will be conducting the first-ever blind football demo game in Goa with an aim to introduce the game and to encourage blind footballers to take up the game and form a state side in the future.
The Goan chapter of National Association for the Blind along with FC Goa and Chowgule Sports Center is organizing the demo game on of September 2 at the Futsal Arena at the Chowgule Sports Center in Gogol, Margao.

NDMC announces athletics championship for the disabled

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to hold an athletics championship for the differently-abled of the national Capital. The athletics meet will be held from October 11-13 this year at Talkatora Stadium.

In this regard, the body has already invited entries from visually impaired and orthopedically challenged students in the age group of 11-14 years under junior category and 15-18 years under senior category for the athletics meet.

Blind, yet in perfect sync

“We can’t see the color of our costumes. We can’t see you all. But we can see your expressions through our hearts,” said Taraka Ramudu one of the dancer among the five visually challenged dancers who gave an extraordinary performance arranged by the Department of Language and Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday evening at Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College.

In August 2016, Divyanshu Ganatra, a visually-impaired adventure enthusiast set out with a sighted captain to pedal from Manali to Khardung La in the Himalayas, a length of 550 kilometres that the team completed in just eight days. He became the first blind tandem cyclist to accomplish the feat.

Kanchanmala Pande, a completely blind para-athlete swimmer from Nagpur, along with five other athletes, was to participate in the Para-Swimming Championships at Berlin from July 3rd to 9th. But she was left in utter misery after the sponsorship money from Sports Authority of India was not released by Paralympic Committee of India (PCI).

With no money for hotel and food expenses, Kanchanmala resorted to begging on the streets of the German capital.

The year 2017 has been a momentous year for blind cricket in India. After having won the inaugural T20 World Cup for the Blind title in 2012, India captured the second too, beating Pakistan in the final in early February.

What was also special was the fact that the Indian skipper in 2012, Karnataka’s Shekhar Naik, was awarded the Padma Shri on the eve of the 2017 edition. Naik, now 31 and retired, became the first blind cricketer to be conferred the award.

She proves impossible is nothing

BENGALURU : She guides the students, steering their movements with the sound of her voice and a gentle push with her hand. They take some time to understand the dance movements. But with a lot of rigorous practice, they learn the nuances of Bharatanatyam, a classical dance form.

Dr Raksha Karthik, Bharatanatyam exponent, has been teaching this classical art form to the specially abled and to the visually impaired for the last 10 years.
