KOCHI: As he puts his batting gloves on, Sijumon casually explains how he normally travels out of his tribal village in Therakkudy. First, a two-and-half-hour walk through the forest -- a river or two to cross along the way -- as his father accompanies him till Kuttampuzha. Then he depends on infrequent jeep services to reach Pooyamkutty and catches a bus to Kothamangalam and from there to Aluva. All this to play a sport that he dearly loves, cricket.

Blind Cricket World Cup final 2018 to be held in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) on Monday said the final and some matches of the fifth edition of the Blind Cricket World Cup 2018 would be played in Pakistan.

Talking to APP, PBCC chairman Syed Sultan Shah said Pakistan would be hosting the 2018 World Cup matches in Pakistan and Dubai.

"Besides Pakistan, seven other teams would be participating in the World Cup including India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Australia, South Africa and West Indies," he said.

A car rally is usually related to speed and driving skills but as 52 cars rolled out on the streets of the city today with unique teams of sighted drivers and visually impaired navigators embarking upon a 40-km journey, it was a rare sight for the onlookers.

Visually impaired sports competition holds April 6

The 22nd yearly inter-house sports competition of the Vocational Training Centre for the visually impaired will hold on April 6 at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Field.

Two houses, Blue and Red, with 29 students in each House, will participate in events that include March Past, 50 metres (male and female, three legged race (male and female), walking race (male and female), shot put and tug of war. Others are invitational relay races, Old students race, parents/guardian race, executive council members/friends of the society race, staff race and search game (female).

Asian chess championship for the blind begins

First rounds games to begin today

The International Braille Chess Association (IBCA) Asian Chess Championship for the Visually Challenged-2017 was inaugurated here on Wednesday. The first round games will begin on Thursday as teams from Yemen and the Philippines are to yet arrive, while teams from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are already here. The championship, hosted by Manipal University, is being organised by the All India Chess Federation for the Blind (AICFB) under the aegis of IBCA and All India Chess Federation.

MANUU STUDENT WINS NATIONAL BLIND AND DEAF CHAMPIONSHIP IN JUDO

Hyderabad: Mr. Hassan Ali Bawazeer of ITI, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, has won the 5th National Blind and Deaf Judo Championships Award.

According to Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed I. Patel, Dean, Students Welfare, Bawazeer has participated under 55 kgs weight category in the Junior Blind Judo Championships – 2017 held at Scottish High International School, Gurgaon, Haryana recently, and secured first position in competition.

Modi meets victorious India’s T20 Blind Cricket Team

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met members of India’s T20 Blind Cricket Team which recently won the World Cup and said their deeds are an inspiration for millions of people.

“Had a memorable interaction with our champion cricketers, the winners of the T-20 Cricket World Cup for the Blind,” Modi said.

“Inspired by their seniors, most of these cricketers picked up the game in their school days. Today, they are an inspiration to all of us,” he tweeted.
