Twenty-year-old Eshwar Rao Javvadi from Hyderabad is just a few months away from graduating as a lawyer from Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) in Ahmedabad.

But there is something special about Eshwar's story. He is visually impaired. He lost his vision at the age of 10 in 2007.

Eshwar remembers a taxation lawyer he met when he was five, and he wanted to be the same.

Despite all the hardships Eshwar faced, he worked hard to fulfil his dream.

MTN gives scholarship to 96 blind students in science and technology

THE MTN Foundation has awarded a scholarship to 96 blind students and 1068 students to study science and technology in 2018 academic session.

Mr Dennis Okoro, Director MTN Foundation made this known on Tuesday in Abuja during the presentation of scholarship award to some of the beneficiaries.
Okoro said that a total of 1164 students had so far been awarded the scholarship comprising 96 blind students and 1068 other students.

He said the award of the scholarship was part of MTN social corporate responsibility in giving back to the society.

The roaring applause left everyone awestruck as their teacher Maya Rani (51) visually impaired teacher was honoured at the Vocational Rehabilitation and Training Centre (VRTC) on Teacher’s Day.

CBSE proposes disability-specific exemptions to differently-abled children

The Central Board of School Education (CBSE) has proposed to provide specific exemptions to differently-abled students in the board examinations in accordance with their needs and also said it was committed to shifting to the online mode of examination for such children. In a report submitted before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the CBSE has said that the draft policy will be presented in the upcoming winter session before its Curriculum Committee and after clearance it will submitted to the Governing Body for final approval.

Delhi High Court directs admission of differently abled to MBBS

After the Supreme Court allowed medical aspirants suffering from low vision to get admission, the Delhi High Court has cleared the cases of admission of candidates with hearing impairments, specific learning disabilities and blood disorder-related disabilities into MBBS this year. All of these were cancelled earlier on the basis of Medical Council of India (MCI) guidelines and faulty medical boards.

UGC-NET 2018: Blindness no bar for five qualifiers

UGC-NET 2018: Five visually impaired students of the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) have cracked the National Eligibility Test (NET), an exam to determine eligibility for assistant professors and junior research fellowships, a varsity official said Wednesday. One of them to clear the test is budding singer Muskan Thakur, who was declared as a “youth icon” of the election commission for the last year’s state assembly election.

Differently abled to get therapy in special centre

Parents and caregivers of disabled kids in Gujarat take note! A new centre called Urmi Divyang School Research & Therapy centre, which will look into research as well as therapy needs of disabled students has been opened in Sama in Vadodara.

The centre promises to reach out to children with physical and mental disabilities irrespective of their economic backgrounds. It will provide, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, sensory integrated therapy and speech therapy.

New policy for students with special needs in education, exams.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), along with 28 other education and state boards are all set to bring in new policies for making academics and exams easier for children with special needs.

More than 50 school principals, disabled children and their parents, NGO representatives, activists and special educators participated in a session that was held on Wednesday at New Delhi. They discussed about curriculum adaptations, pedagogies and physical environment needed for children with special needs.

These are just a few of the solutions 11-13 year old children from different schools in the city worked on at a recent workshop held at the Advanced Learning Centres (ALCs) set up by National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS).
