Students will present their research, business concepts for inventions

The New Jersey Institute of Technology will host its second-annual TechQuest and Innovation Day this Friday, April 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

More than 40 students across various NJIT disciplines will present their research and business concepts for inventions that aid with everything from sleep deprivation, visual impairment, and the global energy crisis to lengthy grocery checkout lines and the messy process of making s’mores.

Judith Sheft, NJIT’s associate vice president of technology development, said in a news release that “the ingenuity and the entrepreneurial drive of our students, as well as the extraordinary range of their talents, are truly impressive.”

Prizes will be awarded to students participating in the TechQuest undergraduate invention competition and the Big Data Visualization Challenge. Sponsored by S&P Capital IQ, these programs help students develop business plans for technology products and also host hack-a-thons and game development weekends.

Lou Eccleston, president of S&P Capital IQ, will speak during the event about the critical partnership between business and technology.

NJIT – ranked in the top tier of national research universities by U.S. News & World Report in 2011 – provides over 120 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs in which its 10,000 students can obtain their degrees. The university also offers certificate programs and graduate degrees online through its Division of Continuing Education.
