Pakistan wins the Umer Rashid Memorial series

The four one-day match series for Umer Rashid Memorial Trophy started on May 27 in England and ended on 31 May 2006. England was looking to regain the trophy, which Pakistan claimed with a 3-1 series win in 2002. But Pakistan managed to repeat its feat yet again! Having won last four international series, the England team looked quite confident in the tournament. At the start of the series, the English team manager, Peter Sugg said, "We'll be looking for a strong performance from England's star players as well as looking for the junior players in the squad to improve their skills and stake a claim for a starting place at the world cup." The Pakistan team was led by Skipper Abdur Razaak. The other members of the team were: Amir Ishfaq, Muhammad Shahbaz, Muhammad Waqas, Muhammad Fiaz, Sharakh Yasin, Zeeshan Abbas, Anwar Ali, Shahzad Javed, Muhammad Gulshad, Syed Adnan Ahmed, Muzaffar Ali, Muhammad Ashraf Bhatti and Muhammad Waseem. England team consisted of Heindrich Swanepoel (Captain), Andy Dalby-Welsh, Matt Dean, Dan Field, Rory Field, Nathan Foy, Howard Greenhill, Joe Harrison, Hassan Kahn, Sam Mur, Miles Northwood, Mark Pickup, Andy Powers, Bryn Reynolds, Keryn Seal, Luke Sugg and David Townley. Match one - Both the teams had to settle for a draw because of bad weather. Match two - Pakistan registered a comfortable victory despite two half centuries by the English team. Taking a lead in the series. Match three - Pakistan beat England by five wickets, and won the series.
