Rally for visually impaired goes the Time Speed Distance way

It's time for the visually impaired to prove their navigating skills when Foresight - Car Rally for the Blind 2012 gets under way on Sunday.
The Time Speed Distance rally, organised by the Bangalore Knight Round Table (BKRT), in association with Round Table India (RTI), will be flagged off from Palace grounds and finishes at the same point, covering a distance of 45 km in two hours and 30 minutes with an average speed of 45 kph.
Anyone with a valid driver's license can take part as the rally attempts to bring together the visually impaired and the sighted. In the rally, the visually impaired navigator would read out the Braille instructions for the driver to follow the route.
As many as 80 drivers have confirmed their entries but the organisers hoping for at least 120 participants. The navigators will be selected by the National Association for Blind.
Karunya, a member of the organizing committee said, "There are experienced visually impaired navigators who have done the job over the last six years. These drivers will be selected by the National Association for the Blind."
INRC drivers Chethan Shivakumar and KP Aravind are likely to take part. The organizers are hoping to rope in Anita Kholay while veteran rallyist CK Chinnappa will be the clerk of the course.
