Ramps sought at government offices

Thu, 07/19/2012 - 13:24 -- admin

Members of the ‘All Government Job Differently Abled Welfare Association,' demanded that ramps and separate toilet facilities should be built for the differently-abled in all the government offices as part of mainstreaming them into the society.

In a monthly meeting held here in the city recently, the association demanded that the above said facilities along with separate lift facilities and wheel chairs were placed as demands before the District Collector, U. Sagayam who had asked the concerned authorities to establish those facilities in a week's time.

However, the facilities were not established but with one exception at the Col.John Pennykuick Hall where through the District Collector's efforts ramps were constructed and wheel chairs were provided for the visitors who come to attend the grievance redressal meeting.

The association has thanked this effort made by the Collector.

The association demanded that the Collector should organise a special camp to give away application forms for identity proof, form required for submission at the income tax office and also for the provision of travel allowance to the differently abled.

They also demanded that the facilities at the District Disabled Rehabilitation Office at Villapuram be upgraded.

A demand was also made to expedite the process of identifying two cents of land for the differently-abled who work in government offices.

The meeting was chaired by S. Bhoopathi, district president in the presence of A. Gopikannan, secretary and B. Annamalai, treasurer.
