A run for books

Mon, 07/23/2012 - 13:11 -- admin

N.L.B., based in Stockport(U.K.), is the main provider of leisure reading material for blind and partially sighted people.

It is also one of the few organisations dedicated towards producing books in formats of Braille, audio and giant print, for people with visual impairments.

Sharon, who is a member of N.L.B., said, “As a visually impaired person, I recognise the importance of the services they provide, including, addressing the issue of inequality of access to reading material and information to visually impaired people”. It has been observed that only five per cent of all books published in The United Kingdom ever make it into a format that visually impaired people can read.

Since the library is totally dependent on donations, Sharon wants to contribute in whatever way she can to fund the services from which she has benefited. Hence, she runs the London Marathon in aid of N.L.B.

In her appeal to the local people for support, she says, “ I have made my target a challenging one, as I am never going to run a marathon again”.

Encouraging Sharon for her cause to run, a spokesperson for the library Claire Briscoe said, “We are very pleased that Sharon has decided to run the Marathon. We are always keen to hear from people who wish to raise money for charity and help”.
