Sailing scheme for the visually impaired

Wed, 07/25/2012 - 15:52 -- admin

It will give visually impaired persons a once in a lifetime chance to learn to sail a yacht.

Bluesail and Gargash Enterprises (U.A.E.) together with Takeem and Foresight (U.A.E.) launched a new programme called ‘Sailing for the Visually Impaired (people)’. This programme aimed to give the blind and visually impaired people the opportunity to focus on their abilities rather than their disabilities.

Organisers hope to train 24 students within the first year. They will be teamed with sighted volunteers. They hope to build a team to compete for the International Federation for Disabled Sailing (I.F.D.S.) Blind Sailing Championship.According to Greg Boyle of Bluesail, the training is aimed at "showing the ropes" to the students in a safe surrounding.

The pioneering project is due to commence in November.
