Seeing through his lens

Thu, 07/26/2012 - 10:29 -- admin

Like most people with a camera, he can't resist a photographic opportunity. But there is a difference, Dave Ducommun (Woodridge, U.S.) cannot distinguish everything that comes through his lens. He is legally blind.

"Probably the most difficult part is being able to switch, stop or the different settings most of these cameras have. It just takes longer," said Ducommun.

His sight declined 20 years ago. ”I have no center vision but I have peripheral vision, thank goodness I feel lucky about that (because it) allows me to still have colours and I can enjoy this wonderful world," said Ducommun.

Dave has devoted an entire room of this home to his passion for photography where he is blessed by the latest in digital technology.

Three years ago Dave joined the Downers Grove Camera Club. And already he has won a number of awards with his computer enhanced prints.

He shoots a picture every day and spends five to six hours at his computer working on it. He has won a number of awards with his computer-enhanced prints. "You composed a shot and hope this will come out neat (so as) to compete in clubs. And so as I am shooting I'm saying, can this be one of them," says Ducommun.
