Software to help visually impaired play better

Mon, 07/23/2012 - 13:25 -- admin

‘Talk 64’, the first-of-its kind talking software will make playing the game of chess for visually impaired players much easier and simpler.

Talk 64 has a distinct audio feature. It will keep players informed about all the moves in the game and will also interact with the player continuously. Another interesting feature attached to the speech module of the software is its synthesizer. With the help of the synthesizer the voice (male or female), rate and volume of speech can be regulated.

The software also contains a unique collection of games and has more than 1,00,000 games from various international tournaments for practice. It also covers all the major openings and their variations. This will not only provide variety to the player but will also help in upgrading his or her skills.

Talk 64 was launched on October 10, 2006, at the‘11th Individual World Chess Championship for the Blind 2006 in Goa.

Speaking about software, Charudutta Jadhav, executive board member of International Braille Chess Association and general secretary of All India Chess Federation for the Blind, said, “I feel proud that India has come out with the first of its kind software in the world which is helping our team prepare for the challenge ahead.”

The software is the brainchild of India’s leading network provider company G.T.L. Limited.
