State Divyang Commission has been formed this year and it would start functioning from January, next year, said Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat while addressing the gathering at Uttarakhand Divyang Utsav-2016 held at Parade Ground on Saturday. This Utsav was held under the aegis of social welfare department and Hans Foundation to mark the occasion of World Disabled Day.
A fixed amount is being spent by the State Government for the welfare of the people belonging to weaker section of the state, CM said, adding that the disabled people should also be involved in policy making and its execution. For this, the State Government would set up a platform for disabled persons, he stated.
Earlier, CM inspected multipurpose camps and service centres being put by various government departments and other private organisations. Several progammes involving the disabled persons were held and CM awarded those who had performed exceptionally well.
Rawat congratulated the people, representing various Government departments, private sectors and Self Help Groups (SHGs) for making Uttarakhand Divyang Utsav-2016 successful.
He said that on the occasion of world disabled day, they must pledge to work unitedly to help the disabled persons to develop fast.
CM said that in spite of financial constraint, State Government is providing allowance for the disabled children to complete their basic needs. Pregnancy tracking system has been developed in the State to learn about the disabled children’s condition. An arrangement should be made for disabled persons to participate Republic Day celebration at Parade Ground from the next year and State Government would bear the financial burden, he said, adding that Divyang Utsav would be celebrated as State’s utsav.
