Taking an interview

In this interview section we talk to successful visually impaired persons to get an insight into what makes them tick. These interviews give us a first-hand account of the challenges these people faced, and what did they do to overcome those challenges.

Beno Zephine

Beno Zephine is the first totally blind person to make it to the Indian Foreign Service. George Abraham, CEO Score Foundation chats with her on the phone regarding her aspirations and journey so far.

Karan Singhania

Karan Singhania scored 92.4% in Class 12 examinations conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E.) for the academic year 2009-10. Karan is a commerce student and bagged the first position in his school.
 
Goma Rai

Goma Rai cracked the CAT in 2010. She got a call from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow and Indore, and Tata Institute of Social Sciences(TISS) Mumbai. She surprised everyone by choosing TISS over the IIMs. She chose to follow her dream of pursuing a course in human resources.

Yasmin Sawhney

Cathy and Bernard

That’s the message both Catherine Birchall and Bernard Smith are spreading as they move along their expedition of going around the world on their 1000 cc motorbike. Cathy is completely blind and she is doing a pillion ride with Bernard. They’ve had very interesting experiences as they moved from country to country.
 

Manvendra Singh Patwal

For Manvendra, cricket means a lot more than just a game. Having played blind cricket for over 16 years, he has developed a deep insight into the game and also several ideas on how to bring blind cricket in the limelight.

Rajani Gopal

Rajani Gopal is India’s first visually impaired woman to become a Chartered Accountant. Currently working with India’s leading software companies, it has taken Rajani immense grit, perseverance and patience to reach where she stands.
 
Parmeet

Parmeet is a quiet boy who enjoys programming and feels the need to create and develop software programmes which are accessible to blind people and also affordable. According to him, software programmes should enable a blind person to work independently and quickly without any help.
 
Satveer

At first glance, you can pass off Satveer as a regular teenager, shy and introvert. But spend some time talking to him and you will discover a very mature thinker who wants to make a serious difference to the lives of blind people using his computer skills.
 
Lisa Fittipaldi

A former certified public accountant and financial analyst, currently an artist and English teacher, Lisa Fittipaldi is clearly a woman who knows exactly what she wants and how to get it.
 
Avraham (Rami) Rabby 
 
Avraham (Rami) Rabby has been serving, since October 2002, as the Assistant Information Officer (Electronic Media), in the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy of the United States in New Delhi. He has authored or co-authored a number of publications on career planning, job seeking and employment, among them the book “Take Charge: A Strategic Guide For Blind Job Seekers.”
 
David Blunkett

David Blunkett is a British Labour Party politician, who has been the Home Secretary since 2001. He has been blind since birth. After Labour's landslide victory in the 1997 general election he became the UK 's first blind cabinet minister as Secretary of State for Education and Employment. Blunkett's guide dogs – Teddy, Offa, Lucy, and now Sadie – have become familiar characters at Westminster.
 
Preeti Monga

Preeti is the first visually impaired person in the country to have successfully completed the Aerobic Instructor’s Training Programme from Veena Merchant of U.S.A. Shapes. She has proved that a handicap is not one until you let it become one.
