"We are organising Swavlamban, a national fair on aid and assistive devices for people with disabilities, at Pragati Maidan July 25-28," said Stuti Kacker, secretary in the department of disability affairs, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

"We felt a strong need for wider dissemination of information of the technological advancement in the aid, assistive, adaptive and rehabilitation devices for people with disabilities," Kacker added.

The department of disability affairs will bring together manufacturers, NGOs, government officials and disabled people during the trade fair, she said.

"Fifty-five stalls showcasing state-of-the-art equipment for people with disabilities will be set up at the fair. Devices like talking phones for the visually-impaired, advanced cochlear implants for the deaf will also be demonstrated," said Awanish K. Awasthi, joint secretary, department of disability affairs.
Children from 30 special schools in Delhi will visit the trade fair.

"We have arranged Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) low-floor buses to transport these kids. Organisations dedicated to disabled people interested in visiting the fair can send SMS on 9452789588 for transport arrangements," Awasthi added.
