Visually impaired students remember Louis Braille on his 215th birth anniversary

Ferozepur,  January 4, 2024:  The visually impaired inmates at Home for the Blind – an institution exclusively working to take care of the blind under the banner of District Council For the Welfare of Handicapped – celebrated 215th birthday of Louis  Braille -(Jan 4, 1809 – Jan. 6, 1852) - inventor of six-dots raised language punched on a card sheet to be read by visually impaired persons – today at Home for the Blind, Ferozepur.
Ramesh Sethi, Manager, Avtar Singh, (Retd. TO) Supervisor, Puran Accountant, Home for the Blind Unit were also present on this occasion, who paid floral tributes to the Louis Braille along with inmates, staff and management members, followed by distribution of sweets with tea.  

On this auspicious event, Sukhpal Singh read out the life sketch of Louis Braille from the Braille language, as a mark of respect to remember the inventor of language for the blind and appealed to all blind persons to learn this language which will help them to improve their qualification and help in reading the help-books, magazines and newsletters received in the institution in Braille.
Sukhchain Singh, Music Teacher said, the Braille language has brought a revolution of avenues in the visually impaired class.  Louis Braille was a French educator and inventor of a system of reading and writing for use by the blind or visually impaired. His system remains virtually unchanged to this day and is known worldwide simply as Braille.  He said the language has helped them to progress in various fields of education, music, skill development; call centres. As a mark of respect for Louis Braille, Manpreet and Amit also played Chess with pieces in Braille.

Ramesh Sethi, Manager, said that the Braille language has provided more opportunities to the visually impaired class and at present there are 28 inmates in the school, out of which 23 are school and college-going and pursuing Plus One onward classes. During the last three years, 31 inmates have joined the government service against the reserved quota for handicaps.
Presently the Home for the Blind is being run exclusively on volunteer donations and the Red Cross. Appealing to the people, he said, besides donating to any other institution, the people should also come forward to help blind institutions take care of the visually impaired persons, more comfortably.
