Fri, 11/18/2022 - 11:05 -- geeta.nair

To raise awareness about the upcoming 3rd T-20 World Cup for  the Blind 2022, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, a non- profit working to empower those differently abled, is  organising a walkathon on November 19 at Kanteerava Stadium.

The World Cup for the Blind 2022 is scheduled to be held from December 5 to 17. “The objective of the walkathon is to get public support and encouragement for the 3rd T-20 World Cup for the blind. Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan, Shivajinag MLA Rizwan Arshad, and other prominent persons are expected to attend the event,’’ said Dr Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar, Founder Managing Trustee of Samarthanam.

He said that Samarthanam has been organising walkathons on different themes.
“The theme of the walkathon is: Let’s walk to support visually impaired cricket. I perceive that this walkathon is a rehabilitation drive for the millions of visually impaired people across the globe so that they can overcome barriers by boosting their confidence, leading to economic empowerment of the visually impaired cricketers,’’he said.
Seven countries such as Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the host India  are participating, playing 24 matches in eight cities. Actress Sapthami Gowda will be the brand ambassador for the walkathon this year, informed Kivadasannavar. Kantara star said that it surprises her how the visually impaired players play cricket, which itself is a very tricky and challenging game. “I can’t wait to watch and support the 3rd T20 World Cup. Let us be a part of it and support and enrich our experience,’’ she said. Every year, Samarthanam organises a one-of-a-kind walkathon that witnesses massive public support. Samarthanam’s Walkathon is organised mainly to encourage people across the country to get involved and spread awareness on a common cause. Indian Blind Cricket Team captain Ajay Kumar Reddy said the cricket team has been busy with the practice sessions in Bengaluru. “I am confident about the success of the match and winning the Cup,” he said.
