BENGALURU: What if you are chasing a treasure by road and all the directions are written in Braille?
In a fundraiser event held in the city on Sunday, visually-impaired persons directed seasoned drivers by reading out the instructions issued in Braille, so that they could reach the treasure and win the event.
The event — Foresight 2016 — was jointly organised by Bangalore Knights Round Table and Bangalore Knights Ladies Circle, in association with the National Association for the Blind. The event was aimed at raising funds for various groups working for the welfare of the visually-impaired and also to create awareness about the problems faced by them.
The treasure hunt was flagged off with 40 contestants, who were being navigated by the visually-impaired persons. They had to reach various checkpoints in the city, before the treasure was found. There were five checkpoints, which could only be found out based on the clues provided in advance. No two cars were given the same checkpoint.
The last checkpoint of the event, which took more than an hour to complete, was at the flea market at Palace Grounds.
Ranbir Singh, Chairman, Bangalore Knights Round Table, said that the event was an effort to enable the visually challenged to be accepted by mainstream society by being part of such events.
Vasudha Gadi, Chairperson, Bangalore Knights Ladies Circle, said the event was not only exciting for the visually challenged but also gave them an opportunity to showcase their talents. “We thank the navigators and the National Association for the Blind who readily agreed to support us in this event.
