Deprived of vision since birth, yet visionary enough!

21 visually-impaired women feted by Shivam Foundation for their work

They are all women with a difference and all are pursuing their careers in various fields. What is common in them is, despite being visually challenged by birth, they all possess an extraordinary vision.

Shivam Foundation, founded Prakash Renuse in memory of the Late Parvatibai Renuse, every year felicitates women who have made outstanding contribution to various fields. This year it selected 21 visually impaired women who have contributed to the fields they are working in, besides independently pursuing their own careers. These women were felicitated by former district government pleader Vijay Savant, customs superintendent Mohan Goswami and sports organiser Sunil Nevrekar.

The foundation felicitated these women for their work in various fields. Of these, Rina Patil, works in the field of computer and trains other visually impaired women in computer operation; Vrushali Santikar, an M Phil in library science, is an officer with the Bank of Maharashtra; Samina Shaikh is graduate with Kathak dance as her subject and is an accomplished dancer; Maithili Chavan is pursuing a career in foreign languages; Sucheta Shidore is an orator and poetess; Suman Rajbar imparts training on mobile phone mechanism.

Others are Sushama Pawar (Educational aide and instruments), Medha Patil (Education), Pratibha Gavande (Athletics), Shravani Kalyankar (Drawing and Painting), Usha Gaware and Varsha Veer (Computers), Vandana Bharatiya and Pallavi Bhagat (Music), Anjana Jhoje (Business), Shehnaz Shaikh (Ceramic), Rita Diwate (Massagist), Sonali Borde (Banking Grduate), Sheetal Yadav (Housewife), Gauri Khomane (Sports) and Savita Salve (Higher Education and works for hearing impaired).
