First hand computer training for visually challenged

Trichy: Jegajothi Readers Club, in association with Humanitty club of National Institute of Technology-Trichy (NIT), launched a five-day training programme on computer expertise for the visually challenged here on Tuesday
Aimed at bridging the gap between the visually impaired by means of computer, the five day programme is expected to impart technical hnads-on knowledge to the camp attendees. On the first day, sixty students were given orientation classes on softwares, in a bid to enable them to use computers for acquiring knowledge.

Japan to donate Braille Printers for Blind Students

KATHMANU — Ambassador of Japan to Nepal Masashi Ogawa signed a grant contract to provide Braille printers and ancillary equipment to the Nepal Association for the Welfare of the Blind (NAWB) here today. The contract was signed between the Embassy of Japan and the Chairman of NAWB Kumar Thapa.

Assam to provide free textbooks to blind students

The Assam Government will provide free textbooks to visually impaired students of the State, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister made the announcement while releasing a guidebook for the visually challenged students for competitive examinations.

Mr. Sonowal said his government has taken up various programmes aimed at uplifting the lives of the 4.4 lakh ’dibyangs’ (differently abled) in Assam.

‘Include lessons on rights of disabled’

CHENNAI: The HC has suggested to the government to include lessons on ‘disabilities’ and rights of the disabled, as also the value of tolerance, empathy and respect for them in the school curriculum from the next academic year.

FIRST BLIND OAS OFFICER JOINS PURI DM OFFICE

Sanyasa Kumar Behera, the first visually-challenged OAS officer, assumed office as the Training Reserve Officer at the Establishment section of the Collectorate here on Wednesday.

Behera, who is 100 per cent visually challenged from birth, is now doing entire office work through Braille script. Before joining, he had undergone four-month training at the Gopabandhu Academy of Administration in Sambalpur.

तेजप्रकाश सैनी,मुरादाबाद : बेसिक शिक्षा परिषद द्वारा संचालित नेत्रहीन व मूकबधिर के स्कूल पर ताला लगाने की तैयारी है। समाज कल्याण विभाग ने अपनेराजकीय स्वच्छकार पद्धति कालेज में संचालित समेकित शिक्षा शिविर (स्कूल) को खाली कराने का अल्टीमेटम बेसिक शिक्षा विभाग को दे दिया है। दस नवंबर 2017 तक यह कैंपस खाली करना होगा। इन बच्चों की पढ़ाई पर संकट खड़ा हो गया है। वहीं नेत्रहीन, मूकबधिर के लिए राजकीय स्वच्छकार आश्रम पद्धति कालेज सुरक्षा की दृष्टि से भी उचित है। लाचार बच्चों की सुरक्षा को ध्यान में रखते हुए बेसिक शिक्षा विभाग को इतना सुरक्षित विद्यालय मिलना मुश्किल है। इसमें 60 बच्चों में कुछ नेत्रहीन

PU installs scanners for visually impaired

Chandigarh, October 30

Punjab University (PU) today installed two scanners for visually impaired students of the varsity.

According to PU librarian Dr Raj Kumar, with the help of scanners, visually disabled students can scan books, notes, magazines and other study material. After scanning, it gets stored in their laptop or computer in the PDF format. Then the text could be converted into audio book. The total cost of the scanners with software is around Rs 1.3 lakh.
