30 govt bldgs to be accessible for PwDs

Panaji: The government has begun working towards making 30 government buildings fully accessible for persons with disabilities (PwDs) under phase one of the Accessible India Campaign.
A tender has been floated by the public works department (PWD) for the work and a review meeting chaired by social welfare secretary, Arun Kumar Mishra was held on Wednesday to gauge the progress.

KOCHI: The life of Saly KP, 58, a blind woman from Ernakulam is quite inspiring. When her husband suffered a stroke and went into a coma, she was forced to take care of her entire family, which includes two daughters. But fate didn’t stop with its cruelty there. Soon, Saly became partially blind, and eventually, she lost her eyesight completely. But she didn’t flinch or give up. She started indulging in palliative care and caring for those in need, free of cost. The state vice-president of National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is still ready to offer help to anyone who needs it.

DEHRADUN: Citizens group 'Been There Doon That (BTDT)'  organised a heritage and nature walk for students of   National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with  Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) and Bajaj Institute of Learning  (BIL). The walk was held at the campus of the Wildlife  Institute of India (WII) at Chandrabani to mark  International Biodiversity Day on Sunday.

4% promotion quota for staff with benchmark disabilities

  NEW DELHI: The department of personnel and training (DoPT)  on Tuesday notified the policy on reservation in promotion  to persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBDs) in central  government posts, fixing 4% of total vacancies in the cadre  strength within Group C, from Group C to Group B, within  Group B and from Group B to lowest rung of Group A, for  PwBDs.

Visually impaired put forth slew of demands.

HYDERABAD: Representatives from several organisations working among the visually handicapped said the government was not involving them while making decisions regarding the visually impaired. They demanded that the blind community at large be consulted before making any decisions for their welfare.
They were speaking at a meeting of the Hyderabad unit of the All India Confederation of the Blind (AICB) with the representatives of all organisations working for the blind in the city on Saturday.
