Disabled persons can now register their vehicles under "Divyangjan" category: Details

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways of India   (MoRTH) has asked states to register vehicles  owned by people with disabilities under the ownership  category of "Divyangjan" and extend   necessary tax benefits, instead of providing these  benefits on only new and adapted vehicles.

Equal access to education

Eighteen-year-old Mohit and sixteen-year-old Niharika Kasliwal are visually impaired siblings from Kolhapur, Maharashtra. They belong to a middle-class family where the father works in a garment center and the mother sells homemade products.

When it came to educating their children, the family was supportive, even though they lacked the right information about solutions and possibilities. Both Mohit and Niharika started off in a mainstream school but faced several challenges in reading and writing. Parents, friends, and relatives offered whatever help they could.

6 rural libraries in Dharwad get devices to aid visually impaired pupils

HUBBALLI: The libraries in Dharwad district are getting equipped with a special screen scanner and reading device. The zilla panchayat has initiated digitisation of libraries in the district, and has installed a Kibo device.
The library provides Kibo, a screen scanner and reading device, that allows people with visual impairments to listen to books in any language.

Brailles on Wheels to be held on Sunday

CHENNAI: The 32nd Brailles on Wheels will be held on February 26, from Savera Hotel. The car rally for the visually impaired will be held by National Association for the Blind, O2 Health Studio and Madras Motor Sports Club. It brings together the visually impaired and the sighted making it an inclusive sporting event.

 

The navigator and the driver are mutually dependent thus creating a beautiful synthesis of two minds. The navigator has to read out the instructions which are in Braille for the driver.

Depriving visually impaired pupils of edu inhuman: HC

Patna: The Patna high court on Tuesday said that depriving  the visually impaired students of their right to avail  education through specialized teachers not only violates  the National Disability Act passed by the Parliament  in 2016 but it also depicts the ‘inhumanity of the state’.   By recording such ‘considered opinion’, the high court  directed the chief secretary (CS) of state to furnish a  composite report within four weeks, depicting a ‘true and  clear picture’ about the education system imparted to all  visually impaired students up to Class XII in Bihar .
